Graduate Research Assistant - Global Journalism Innovation Lab, Ryerson University (2020)

Titled the Global Journalism Innovation Lab, the $2.5-million Partnership Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) focuses on explanatory journalism that seeks to provide evidence-based information and perspectives to inform public dialogue and policy action. The Ryerson team leads the research theme on uptake and explanatory journalism, along with analysis of the quality and impact of certain genres. My focus for the summer position was to collect and analyze the types of COVID-19 data visualizations used in The Conversation Canada articles.

Volunteer Researcher - The Synaethetic Media Lab, Ryerson University, TCA Project (2020)

The Synaesthetic Media Lab (Synlab) at Georgia Tech and Ryerson University explores emerging modalities in new media. The research focuses on tangible and embodied interaction technologies that support creative practices that bridge the physical and digital worlds. Applications range across media arts, computational sciences, entertainment, and educational domains. SynLab is run by Dr. Ali Mazalek, Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Digital Media & Innovation.

Tangible Cultural Analytics Project:

- UX and UI for web-based component (wire-framing, logo design, general branding strategy)
- Research focuses: User study evaluation, cultural user experience (CUX) evaluation, questionnaire strategy, user study recruitment, data visualization technique
